The theme for 2022 being “green in all its forms”, our Bailliage decided to celebrate World Chaîne Day in the lush green setting of the Arthaus Beirut, a cool oasis of good taste and conviviality.

This charming hotel, made up of a cluster of houses typical of Beirut’s architecture dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries, has recently been renovated and converted into guest houses. It wasn’t a random choice of venue for this celebration.

For all of us during this festive occasion the hotel represented, on the one hand, the revival of a whole neighbourhood of Beirut that was greatly damaged during the terrible explosion on 4 August 2020. On the other hand, it epitomised our Bailliage’s determination to get back to some sort of semblance of normality given all the exceptional circumstances that our beloved Lebanon has recently experienced.

Everybody agreed that the gastronomy and the high quality of the dishes on offer were outstanding.

The meal was accompanied by some wonderful local wines and ended with just as memorable a sunset. Every member took an olive plant home with them, presented in a ceramic pot bearing the Chaîne’s logo.

The year’s “green” theme ran through the whole celebration, at every level, including the lovely garnishes on the dishes that we were served.

We look forward to more such successful events in the bright future ahead of us.
